Faith in Action

‘In the joy of the Gospel we will work together to be kind, be fair and honest, and become the people Jesus calls us to be’

St. Gregory’s has strong links with the parish and often joins in with parish celebrations. School events and successes are regularly included in the Parish newsletter. As a whole school we visit the Parish Church and attend Parish Mass at least once a term. During Lent each class is also invited to a Mass before school to reflect upon this special time in the Church’s calendar. At 11a.m. Mass on Sundays the pupils are invited to attend the children’s liturgy, which is led by catechists from the school staff and board of Governors.

We are also proud to join in and lead special celebrations within our Parish, such as our Remembrance Day Memorial, our Candlelight Christmas Carol Service and the Stations of the Cross.

From an early age we encourage our children to be actively involved in outreach work locally, nationally and globally. During Harvest the children donate food parcels and deliver them to the elderly in the Parish. Our School Council has also arranged a number of events to raise money for national charities such as Children in Need, The Good Shepherd, Save the Children and Nugent Care as well as local Charities such as Zoe’s Place and Derian House. At Christmas we ask for toys and gifts to presented to the altar during our Christmas Carol Service for our local children’s centre. Recently we have also focussed on raising money for our partner school in Kenya. Our school community always astounds us in their extremely generous support of others.

Gospel Values

The values which guide and inspire us in our Christian lives as disciples of Jesus are those given to us in the Gospels.

The core Gospel values based on the Beatitudes may be summarized as follows:

"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven"

Values: Faithfulness and Integrity

"Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted"

Values: Dignity and Compassion

"Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth"

Values: Humility and Gentleness

"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied"

Values: Truth and Justice

"Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy"

Values: Forgiveness and Mercy

"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God"

Values: Purity and Holiness

"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God"

Values: Tolerance and Peace

"Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of slander against you because of me. Be glad and rejoice for your reward is great in heaven; they persecuted the prophets before you in the very same way"

Values: Service and Sacrifice

At St. Gregory’s we take inspiration from these Gospel Values and use these as themes for our Collective Worship and have weekly values where children are recognised and rewarded during our weekly merit assembly for displaying them.

As a school community we all strive to live out our MOTTO where we value each person and treat everyone with love, dignity and respect through always trying to:

BE KIND, BE FAIR, BE HONEST
